Interfax Group launches Interfax-South project

The Interfax Group is launching the Interfax-South project. Under the project, a regional information agency, Interfax-South, will provide political and economic information from the Southern Federal District.

The agency's main office will be opened in Rostov-on-Don, and bureaus will be set up in all administrative centers of the southern republics and regions, including Krasnodar, Volgograd, Elista, Stavropol, Vladikavkaz and Nalchik. An Interfax-South bureau will work in Grozny, the capital of the Chechen Republic.

Interfax General Director Mikhail Komissar made the following remarks:

"A great deal is being written about military and political developments in southern Russia, but very little is being said about the economic potential of the region, or about possibilities that may attract potential investors. Interfax-South will provide its readers with the latest quality information about the situation on Russia's southern frontiers. Its reports about the economic development of the region may be of interest to potential investors."

"Interfax-South is a new step in the development of regional projects, which have become a priority aspect of the agency's work. The regional agency Interfax-Urals was established about a year ago, and preparations are underway for launching similar projects in other federal districts," said Komissar.

Interfax News Agency (www.interfax.ru), a member of the Interfax Information Services group, was founded in Moscow in 1989.

Interfax publishes political, economic, financial, and business information from Russia and foreign countries, and conducts in-depth research of market trends and the current situation in the oil and gas sector, metallurgical industry, fuel and energy complex, and other sectors of emerging market countries.
