Russian Foreign Ministry, Interfax wrap up joint Internet project

The Russian Foreign Ministry and Interfax have wrapped up a joint Internet project, under which visitors to the website www.interfax.ru had the opportunity to pose questions on any aspects of Russia's foreign policy directly to Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov, his deputies and leading diplomats.

The project was launched in September 2002. The Foreign Ministry has received a total of about 700 questions, and nearly all of them were answered in detail.

Only a small number of questions outside of the the Foreign Ministry's purview or in the form of statements declaring people's personal opinions remained unanswered.

Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov thanked Interfax for the successful implementation of the project. "We are grateful to Interfax for its close cooperation and the implementation of this initiative," he said.

Interfax and the Foreign Ministry intend to develop joint projects in the future as well.
