Victory parade under way on Red Square in Moscow
MOSCOW. May 9 (Interfax-AVN) - A military parade in commemoration
of the 63rd anniversary of the end of WWII in Europe is under way on Red
Square in Moscow.
Taking part in the parade are about 8,000 servicemen, over 100
military vehicles, and more than 30 warplanes and helicopters.
Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov is reviewing the troops. Moscow
Military District Commander Gen. Vladimir Bakin is commanding the
parade.
Tanks, armored personnel carriers, and other heavy vehicles are
taking part in the parade on Red Square for the first time in the past
18 years. In addition, state-of-the-art warplanes will fly over Red
Square for the first time during such events.
